a day in a life of Liza Mae | Martha Stewart Life

Posted on 29 December 2008 by Liza Mae V.

We wake up side-by-side, smile on his face brings me happiness inside.  So I give him a big hug bringing him close to me – wanting him to be inside me … mentally and spiritually.  I take a deep breath in hoping that in some magical way that we can be as one  and I breath out realizing that is impossible.  My heart melts every time I get this feeling.  It is like I’ve gone speechless, heart races, and stomach turns. I digress.

It has been more than a week since we’ve moved into the house and it has been completely fabulous, in which most wouldn’t call fabulous.  We’ve actually been roughing it out and sleeping on the living room floor with mats and sheets.  That reminds me of the time where my family had moved into our first house on Nelson street and had nothing.  I know the struggle since it is difficult in the beginning with all the expenses that come with a house – mortgage, hydro, phone, cable, gas, etc.  I can’t believe the city charges for parking in his own driveway and for garbage disposal.

I have been cooking a lot more and I actually enjoy it.  This is my menu so far …

Eggs (any style but we both prefer over easy)
Peameal Bacon
Buttered corn
Broccoli with cheese
Toasted Naan Bread
Paratha Bread

Lunch or Dinner:
Liza’s Sandwich
– (consists of Hot Genoa Salami, Turkey Breast, Jalepeno Havarti Cheese)
Tempura Shrimp (he ate 70% of my batch)
Sashimi Salmon
Udon Noodle Soup (like instant noodles but simply amazing)
Lemon Pepper Mushrooms
Baked Chicken with Potatoes
Lobster with Garlic butter (all for myself because he dislikes it – I was in heaven though, it is my ultimate favorite.  Apparantly I am banned from cooking it in the house since I can’t handle live lobster – it started flapping away, plus he made me feel bad because he said I was torturing the poor thing by steaming it to death)

This week I’m going to attempt cooking buttered chicken, green curry chicken, and baby bok choy with Garlic.  I should really post pictures of my food and share it with the world to enjoy.

So besides from all the cooking, we’ve been watching a lot of HGTV and getting good ideas to renovate the house.  We pulled up 60 year old carpet and tiles from two bedrooms, we know this because we found parts of Globe & Mail newspaper dated March 1948.  That was labour intensive and I can’t believe we did it by ourselves. :)  We plan to refinish the hardwood floors so they will look top notch.  If they do not look so good, we will lay down new hardwood.  So many plans in mind but do we have the budget and the time to complete it?  Stay tuned.  I will update the progress in the weeks to come.

That has been another day in life of Liza Mae … Happy Holidays!

Mantra from the Dalai Lama | Just a Short Buddhist Outlook on Life

Posted on 18 December 2008 by Liza Mae V.

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
This year I have taken a big risk in leaving my comfortable four year relationship for the unknown and it resulted in my great love for mi amore and especially myself.  It is time to take more risks for 2009.

2. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
+ When faced with the same situation, I sometimes forget the lesson learned and repeat my mistakes but I am learning to break this habit.  I have already begin to do so because I am conscious of it now.

3. Follow the three R’s:

Respect for self
Respect for others and
Responsibility for all your actions.

4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
+ Very true, it has happened a couple of times in my favour.

5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
+ Rules who needs rules?

6. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

7. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

8. Spend some time alone every day.
+ Hrmmm, it seems I don’t do this enough.   I am always around people, whether it be at home or at work.

9. Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.

10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.

12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.

13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
+  I am guilty for this occasionally.  In a heated argument things slip up but I do keep this in mind.

14. Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.

15. Be gentle with the earth.

16. Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
+ I have traveled this year but I don’t think anywhere new – Miami, New York, Montreal.

17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
+ =)

18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

a day in a life of Liza Mae | bahumbug

Posted on 15 December 2008 by Liza Mae V.

Another mundane Monday morning … after a crazy weekend.

I struggle to wake up due to my lack of sleep and desire to tackle another work week.  It was dark when I woke up so my body is confused.  It is telling me to crawl under my sheets until the sun comes up but ’til now it is dusk and gloomy outside.  The weather has an extreme effect on my mood.  I might have a mild case of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder):

Definition: The primary feature of seasonal affective disorder is a pattern of depressive or manic episodes that occurs with the onset of the winter months.  As the days become shorter, and the weather colder, there is an increase in vegetative depressive symptoms. Individuals eat more, crave carbohydrates, sleep more, experience chronic fatigue and gain weight. In pronounced cases, significant social withdrawal occurs as well. Some have described the pattern as a hibernation during the winter months. –

Though I am not feeling 100%, I am quite excited at the fact that it is going to be a short week filled with working retail for a day, zzz meetings, and Christmas lunches.  Then it is move-in day!  It seemed like a long time coming but the day is finally here.  I’m just counting down the days … 4 …

Weekend was consumed by a wedding and a Christmas party.  It was my first wedding for photography, I was kind of nervous plus I was hungry.  At the reception, I was filled with a 10 course meal, so that subsided.  Now I have a bunch of edits to do .. work work work.  The Christmas party was more relaxed since I didn’t have to be Ms. Photog and Ms. Driver.  So I was buzzzed and happy!

Sunday was more relaxed and we had All-You-Can-Eat-Sushi at Ten-Ichi!!  If you don’t already know, I love sushi.  Not the California roll stuff but the real raw fish.  My personal faves are anything with salmon, white tuna, soft-shell crab, avocado, tempura shrimp, and bbq eel.  It is making me hungry even thinking about it.  Oooh how can I forget the spicy stuff, like spicy salmon.  I pretty much like it in any form, sashimi, maki, handrollls, etc.  But my indulgence got me killed – I was so stuffed that I had to undo the button and had a long nap after.  The typical ‘itis.

Anyways, that is my first day-in-life entry, until the next day …

Gemini’s Horoscope: Little Adventure

Posted on 02 December 2008 by Liza Mae V.

Gemini Horoscopes

(May 21 – Jun 20)

Tuesday, Dec 2nd, 2008 — However impractical you are now, it’s not going to stop you from planning your next little adventure. You are thinking big and could easily turn a trip to the corner store into a backpacking trek through the rugged high country of Tibet. While others may be laughing at you because they think your ideas are too far out, you’ll get the last laugh when you send them postcards from the top of the world.

I liked today’s horoscope. =)
